The Department of Lands and Natural Resources is responsible for the preservation, protection, conservation, and enhancement of the Commonwealth?s natural resources, which include both our land and our marine resources.

There are four Divisions under the Department.  The Secretary of DLNR delegates program management to the director of each Division.

The DLNR Division of Fish and Wildlife is responsible for protecting and promoting the best uses of our marine environment through the development of sanctuaries (No Take Zones) that allow fish stocks to replenish and re-seed depleted sections of the lagoon, thought scientific studies that measure fish catches to better understand the dynamics of this vital resource, though monitoring of fish and sea life in the Northern Islands and protecting and managing the unique wildlife that is native to the islands of the CNMI as well as migratory species that over-winter in our islands.

The DLNR Division of Parks and Recreation is responsible for the maintenance, landscaping, management, and enhancement of fourteen public beach parks, five inland public parks, fifteen tourist sites, and fifteen public recreational facilities.

    The DLNR Division of Agriculture is responsible for promoting the development of agriculture (promoting commercial truck farming, animal husbandry, and family gardening as well as the beautification of our urban vegetative mosaic through home gardening and raising of ornamental trees and flowers around our homes and gardens), management of our forest resources and quarantine programs that protect our unique tropical island vegetative mosaic from invasion by unwanted plants, animals, insects, and plant and animal diseases.

    The DLNR Division of Land Registration and Survey is responsible for the survey of public lands, issuing certificates of title, holds hearings on disputed claims and reviews all maps, land surveys, plats, manages the permanent register, and administers the CNMI land records and related documents.
