VISION
The CNMI endeavors to assure equality of opportunity, full participation, independent living, and economic self-sufficiency and inclusion & integration into all aspects of society for all individuals with disabilities and their families.
MISSION
It shall be the mission of the Office of Disability Policy & Programs to provide a CNMI-wide leadership by developing and influencing disability-related public policy as well as practice affecting the employment of people with disabilities.
PURPOSE
The Office of Disability Policy & Programs overall purpose is to promote policies, programs, practices, and procedures that guarantee equal opportunity for all individuals with disabilities, regardless of the nature or severity of the disability; and to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve economic self-suffiency, independent living, and inclusion and integration into all aspects of society.
GOALS and RESPONSIBLITIES
- make recommendations to the Governor and the CNMI Legislature to enhance the quality of life for all citizens with disabilities and their families in the areas of sound fiscal policy, employment & training, education, housing, transportation, health, income support, technology & telecommunications, community life, civil rights.
- work closely with all the CNMI disability-related organizations and agencies and represent the governor on these organizations and agencies.
- research and secure federal financial assistance to support existing and create new programs and services that will benefit people with disabilities and their families.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Technical Assistance Service Center Technical Assistance Service Center's Mission:
"It shall be the mission of the Office of Disability Policy & Programs ADA Technical Assistance Service Center to guide and serve the CNMI in implementing and complying with federal plus state disability laws, and especially people with disabilities who live in the Northern Mariana Islands."
The Office of Disability Policy & Programs provides ADA Technical Assistance, information, training, and guidance to businesses, central and local government agencies, schools and individuals with disabilities with rights and responsibilities under the ADA, other applicable Federal laws and disability-related legislation. This office is designated as the CNMI-wide ADA Coordinator as mandated by Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
